Weekly Wednesday session of free play in the museum's soft play area followed by an interactive storytelling session with songs for young children and their families.
Story and Rhyme Time is running every Wednesday morning at the Thackray Museum of Medicine, from Wednesday 14 October to Wednesday 28 October, with each session from 10:00 to 11:00. It's part of the museum's family programme, an indoor hour aimed at young children and their families that keeps going through the school holidays.
The session is split into two halves. The first half hour is free play in Sparks!, the museum's soft play area built for little ones. There's a digestive system to crawl through, ending with a slide down the poo, and a medical centre where they can play at curing patients. After that, the group moves to the Disease Den, the museum's new chillout space, for an interactive storytelling session with songs and a different story every week. Between the two, it's a full hour of activity.
It's an accessible session: there's wheelchair access, guide dogs are welcome, and baby changing facilities are on site. Because it runs through the school holidays, it's one of those things you can slot into the mid-term break without having to plan your whole day around it. Advance booking is required, so you'll need to get your spot sorted before you turn up.
