Belgian post-punk band Stonks play Hyde Park Book Club with support from Suckle and Forensics.
Stonks play Hyde Park Book Club on Tuesday 24 November, with support from Suckle and Forensics. It's a Belgian post-punk four-piece coming over to Leeds, and they're bringing a sound that doesn't quite sit in one place.
They describe their style as a blend of post-punk, noise rock, jazz and shoegaze, all worked into a chaotic, groove-heavy approach. The tension comes from the way they balance nervous energy and heavy distortion against danceable grooves, and they tend to avoid standard rock formulas by layering those different genres on top of each other. It's a combination that's meant to feel both urgent and deeply planned, and they've drawn comparisons to Ditz, Gilla Band and Black Midi.
Their compositions mix absurdity and anxiety, built from saturated textures and grating sounds. They talk about wanting to make both bodies and nerves vibrate, and they see themselves as reinventing post-punk's rules in search of an energetic noise that makes you want to move. It's that specific pull between the grating, anxious side of the noise and the danceable side of the groove that defines what they do.
