Monthly free session at Leeds Art Gallery to look at artworks in the collection and let them inspire your own textile art.
Stitch Art is back at Leeds Art Gallery on Wednesday 4 November, the first of a monthly run that carries on through to 2 December. It's a drop-in session, held on the first Wednesday of every month, so if you can't make this one, there's another chance coming up shortly after.
The idea is simple: you spend some time with the gallery's collections and exhibitions, and let whatever you see there inspire some textile art of your own. It's a slow way of looking at artโtaking a closer look at the works on the walls and then translating those impressions into stitch. There's no set brief, so you can work from a single painting, a whole room, or just a detail that caught your eye.
It runs alongside the Leeds Calico Dress, a community project that's been growing in the gallery. For that one, visitors create embroidered textile patches that tell their own personal stories, and those patches are then sewn into a larger Calico Dress artwork. It's a collective piece, so what you make ends up as part of something bigger. The Stitch Art sessions sit right next to it, and they're all about getting creative with stitch in a relaxed, gallery setting.

It's a free session, and because it's monthly, you can pop in once or keep coming back. The first one is Wednesday 4 November at Leeds Art Gallery, with the next on the first Wednesday of December.
