Free children's mini-festival with poetry, authors and theatre, plus creative activities, for children aged 6 and over and their families.
Leeds City Library is hosting Spooktacular Family Day on Saturday 31 October, a mini-festival run by Leeds Libraries for young readers and their families. It's set in the mysterious corners of the library, and it's co-produced with the British Library. The day is recommended for children aged 6 and over, and all of them need to be accompanied by an adult.
The headline acts are children's poet and former Children's Laureate Joseph Coelho, author Alex Foulkes, and theatre company Fladam, who'll be performing their show Hallowbean. Around them, the day fills with a devilish draw-a-long, cut-up creative writing, and terrifying tea potions, with spooky outfits encouraged. It's the sort of morning where you can drift between the performances and the workshops, so it works whether you're there for the big names or just to let the kids get stuck into the activities.
One thing to keep in mind: while entry to the day is free, the headline events must be booked separately. If there's a particular poet or performer you're keen on, you'll want to sort that out in advance rather than leaving it to chance on the day.
