A Halloween trail for families at Lotherton where visitors collect a spellbook and search the estate to find ten willow arches to mend a broken witch's spell.
Spellbound runs at Lotherton Hall from 24 October to 1 November, a Halloween trail built around the legend of the witches of Lotherton. The story goes that every autumn, the witches cast a charm together to gather the last of the summer's warmth and carry the estate through the winter. This time the spell has come undone and its ten words have scattered, one to each witch.
When you arrive, you'll pick up a spellbook at the gate. From there, you search the woods, the gardens, Wildlife World and the grounds around the hall to find ten willow arches. Each one is a small work of art, decorated with lights, foliage-laden brooms and magical trinkets, and each holds a clue you'll need to mend the broken spell at the Great Cauldron in Cinderwick Village. It's a proper wander across the estate, so it works best as a family outing.
Spellbound is the latest collaboration between Breeze Leeds and Lotherton, following their previous events like The Christmas Experience and Dragon Quest. The partnership has a bit of a track record, too: Lotherton was voted Best Halloween Experience for Families at the 2025 Yorkshire Tots to Teens Awards.

There's more on the estate at the same time. The annual pumpkin patch is running alongside the trail, and for those who want something a bit darker, Once Upon a Nightmare returns for its third year — an evening scare event for thrill-seekers aged nine and up. Spellbound is included in general Lotherton admission, so if you're already heading in for the day, you've got the trail covered.
