Double bill of new jazz with the flugelhorn-led Sarah Heneghan Trio and guitarist and composer Timothy Knowles and his group.
Sarah Heneghan Trio are playing Hyde Park Book Club on Tuesday 27 October, bringing their set to Leeds following the release of Heneghan's new album, Tiny Sacred Gaps. It's a double bill, with guitarist and composer Timothy Knowles taking the second half of the night.
Tiny Sacred Gaps sits at a meeting point of contemporary jazz, Nordic jazz, folk, minimalism, post-rock and ambient electronics. The sound is built around lyrical flugelhorn melodies, gently patterned piano and highly textural drumming. On the night, Heneghan is joined by Charlotte Keeffe on flugelhorn and Ben Gaunt on piano.
Timothy Knowles takes over for the second half. He's a guitarist and composer who cut his teeth with the nu-jazz act Beyond Albedo and the minimalist Emergence Collective. His group plays original material inspired by Wayne Shorter, Radiohead and Scottish traditional music, and their debut album, Kissa, is due in spring 2027. His line-up for the night is a quartet: Knowles on guitar, Martín Berger on baritone sax, Maeve Thorpe on drums, and Antigoni Anastasiadou on piano and vocals.
