Live set by Romare, the electronic project of producer and DJ Archie Fairhurst, who samples second-hand records.
Romare plays Belgrave Music Hall & Canteen on Thursday 29 October, with the night promoted by Super Friendz. It's a live set from the electronic producer and DJ, who goes by the name Romare.
If you're not familiar with the name, Romare is the alias of Archie Fairhurst. His whole approach is built on making something new out of existing material, and that's where the name comes from: he takes his cue from the artworks of the American artist Romare Bearden, whose collages were made from cut-up fragments of found imagery. Fairhurst does the same thing with sound, pulling samples from second-hand records and using cut-and-paste techniques to build his tracks. He blends original composition with found sound, so the music sits somewhere between what he's written himself and the records he's dug up. His albums are described as playful but also deeply researched, and that's a good way to put it — there's a lot of digging involved before a single note is recorded.

On the night, it's Romare performing live, so you'll hear that cut-and-paste style played out in the room rather than just as a recorded track. The night is put on by Super Friendz, one of the promoters that keeps the city's electronic scene moving. It starts at 19:00 at Belgrave Music Hall & Canteen, 1-1a Cross Belgrave St, LS2 8JP, with tickets from £20.35.
