Live gig by the Burlington quartet Robber Robber, with support from Studio20, at Hyde Park Book Club in Headingley.
Robber Robber play Hyde Park Book Club on Wednesday 11 November, with support from Studio20. The night is part of the Brudenell Presents series, so it's a Brudenell-curated bill over at Hyde Park Book Club rather than a night at the Brudenell itself.
Robber Robber are the Burlington quartet led by Nina Cates, and this show comes on the back of their second album, Two Wheels Move the Soul, which they wrote and recorded through the winter of 2024 and 2025. The record grew out of a rough patch for Cates and co-founder Zack James, who were displaced from their home in January 2025 and found their footing again with the help of their community — including Lily Seabird, Greg Freeman and Thus Love's Echo Mars. They returned to Little Jamaica Studios, one of the sites of their acclaimed debut Wild Guess, and worked with engineer Benny Yurco to get it finished.
As for what it sounds like, the album runs from post-punk scorchers to burnt-out slacker anthems and sharp social commentary, with Cates drawing on the cadence of Gucci Mane and Lou Reed. It's a wide enough stretch that the set should hold its own, and with Wild Guess as a precursor, there's plenty to pull from across the two records.
