Adults-only workshop to make a herbarium sheet to scientific collection standard with the Natural Science curators.
Poisonous Plant and Rant is at Leeds Discovery Centre on Wednesday 28 October, from 18:00 to 20:00. It's a workshop for anyone over 18, and it's BYOB, so you can bring along whatever you'd like to drink while you work.
The session is aimed at plant lovers: you'll make your own herbarium sheet to a scientific collection standard, working alongside the Natural Science curators. If you've ever wondered how a professional specimen is actually put together, this is your chance to do it properly rather than just sticking a leaf in a book. You'll be working with the people who look after the collections, so you're learning the real way it's done.
It's part of the centre's Adult Talks, Tours and Workshops programme, and it's worth remembering where you'll be. The Leeds Discovery Centre is the museum store for Leeds Museums and Galleries, home to more than a million objects. It's not a typical gallery space; it's where the collections are kept, and the centre runs workshops, tours and research access alongside them. The curators who'll be leading the session are the ones who work with these collections every day.

There's a bit of a wider story here too. The centre has been involved with the Dead Plant Society, a project run with Space2 that searches through and researches herbarium sheets, so this isn't just a one-off craft night — it's tied into the kind of work they do with the city's botanical records. If you're into plants, it's a good way to see the more technical side of things.
So, Wednesday 28 October, 18:00 to 20:00 at Leeds Discovery Centre. Over 18s, BYOB, and you'll walk away with your own scientific herbarium sheet.
