Live show by Newcastle rockers Pit Pony, with support from The Foxgloves, at Hyde Park Book Club.
Pit Pony play Hyde Park Book Club on Saturday 17 October, with support from The Foxgloves. It's a Brudenell-presented night, and the main set takes place in the Basement, so it's a proper club-level show rather than a larger hall.
Pit Pony are Newcastle rockers who describe their sound as channeling the rawness of the North East coast. Their second album, Dead Stars, came out through Clue Records / EMI North as a broader, more ambitious follow-up to their debut, World To Me. The two records sit on opposite ends of the same spectrum: the first was a tighter, more focused introduction, and Dead Stars opens things up, pulling in influences that range from 50s doo-wop to heavy rock. It's a record that lets them stretch out across a few different moods rather than sticking to one lane.
Frontwoman Jackie Purver writes the lyrics, and she's known for being fiercely honest about duality and vulnerability. She sings in her own accent, and the band has cited Blue Weekend and Skinty Fia alongside Can and the soundtracks of Ennio Morricone as recent touchstones. They've also pointed to regional titans Nadine Shah and The Futureheads as influences. The record itself was handled by Chris McManus at Blank Studios, with mastering by Christian Wright, who has worked with Wolf Alice, Fontaines D.C. and Pigs x7.
