Murder-mystery megagame in which players play fairy-tale characters as mobsters and police in 1920s New York.
Once Upon A Crime takes over The Tetley on Saturday 16 January, a fairy-tale mobster murder-mystery megagame set in 1920s New York. It's run by Leeds Nerds, and the premise is as weird as it sounds: the mafia don Humpty Dumpty has been murdered, his body found with a bullet hole from his own gun, and you're one of the characters left to deal with the fallout.
It's a megagame, which means it's a large-scale role-playing event where everyone plays a part at the same time. You'll be split into two sides: the mobsters, fighting to claw their way up the power vacuum Humpty left behind, and the police, trying to track down the killer. The whole thing runs on negotiation, lies, secret deals and the occasional all-out fight, so you'll spend your day talking your way into—and out of—trouble. Costumes are encouraged, though you don't need one to join in.

It's a long one, so clear your Saturday. Doors open at 12:00, and the game itself runs from 12:30 to 19:30. That's seven hours of playing through, so it's more of a day out than a quick drop-in. The Tetley is on Hunslet Road, wheelchair accessible and about a ten-minute walk from the train station, which makes it easy enough to get to from across the city. Tickets are ÂŁ11.55 via Eventbrite, though it's currently listed as sold out.
