Wine tasting session on the old vines of Italy, part of the Old Vine Conference, at St Peter's Hall on The Calls.
The Old Vine Conference is coming to St Peter's Hall on Tuesday 17 November, with this particular session focusing on the old vines of Italy. It's part of a wider project that works to make wine drinkers aware of the value of old-vine sites — vines that are a precious resource, often better suited to the threats of climate change, and associated with lower yields but greater intensity and complexity. This evening focuses on Italy, with wines from some of the country's most magical vineyards.
The venue is St Peter's Hall on The Calls, the home of Yorkshire Wine School. It's where most of their midweek evening classes, WSET courses, and collaborative guest speaker events take place, so it's a space that knows its way around a tasting. The hall sits less than five minutes' walk from the main city bus station and about ten minutes from the train station, making it easy to get to from across the city. One practical thing to keep in mind: access is down four steps, and there's no accessible lift.

If you're not already familiar with the concept, the Old Vine Conference is about looking at the vines themselves rather than just the labels. Old vines are often overlooked, but they're a finite resource, and the conference aims to put them back on the map. This session narrows that focus to Italy, so you'll be tasting wines from some of the country's oldest sites. It starts at 7:00pm, and tickets are £45.00.
