Presentation, discussion and Q&A with artist Benedict Phillips and Lotus Links founder Briony Martin, followed by a community exhibition of photography and text on neurodivergence.
No Cry for Help is Loud Enough opens at the Henry Moore Lecture Theatre in Leeds Art Gallery on Saturday 5 December, running from 1 pm to 4 pm. It's a community exhibition and launch event, and the whole thing is built around a collaboration between artist and curator Benedict Phillips and the Lotus Links Peer Support community.
The exhibition itself is an installation of photography and text, drawing on the experiences and inspiration that built Lotus Links. It looks at neurodivergence in conflict with institutional processes and thinking, and it's presented through activism, performance, poetry and photography. Phillips describes it as a provocation that opens a debate around the hierarchy and relationships between institutions and the individual, with a particular focus on the impact on parents and children living with the normative and ableism of the world.
The day is split into two parts. From 1 pm to 2 pm, there's a presentation and discussion with Benedict Phillips and Lotus Links founder Briony Martin, followed by a Q&A. After that, from 2 pm to 4 pm, the community exhibition and launch take over. You can catch the talk and the exhibition back-to-back, or just drop in for the second half if the early start doesn't suit.
