Halloween half-term session at Leeds Discovery Centre with a store tour, spooky craft and a chance to handle objects from the natural sciences collection.
Night Creatures is a Halloween special at the Leeds Discovery Centre on Thursday 29 October, and it's one of the things on during the October half term. The session pairs a store tour with a self-directed spooky craft, plus the chance to handle objects from the natural sciences collection. You can make symmetrical moth prints, a collage hedgehog or a glow-in-the-dark bat to take home.
It's worth keeping in mind where this is happening. The Discovery Centre is home to more than 1.3 million objects from Leeds Museums and Galleries, so the store tour takes you into the parts of the collection that don't usually make it onto a gallery floor. The handling part lets you get up close with the natural sciences side of things, rather than just looking from a distance.
Night Creatures sits within a wider run of drop-in activities across the half term, a period that turns the city's museums into a small autumn festival of their own. If you're out and about, there's a scarecrow trail and leaf luminaries at Leeds Industrial Museum, and a mushroom workshop at the Thackray Museum of Medicine. It's a good time to hit a few of them in one go.
