Weekly Wednesday soul and funk club night with DJ Matt Bolton, mixing Motown, Atlantic soul, funk and disco.
Moveonup is back at The HiFi Club on Saturday 24 October, part of its Wednesday night residency. It's a basement sixties and seventies soul party that first drew Leeds clubbers to a weekly night in 1995, built on a blend of Tamla Motown, Atlantic Soul, sixties beat, raw funk and disco. Over the years it grew into one of the UK's longest-running weekly club nights, standing as an alternative to the house, electro, dubstep and bassline sounds that came to dominate much of the city's nightlife.
DJ Matt Bolton has steered the night for twenty years, mixing Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson alongside rarer Northern and Latin soul. The night is billed as bringing back the era when 'every beat meant something & every soul felt it'. The HiFi Club itself opened in 2001 and is regarded as Leeds' finest independent stand-up comedy venue.
