Mind Over Slammer: Leeds Heat

Mind Over Slammer: Leeds Heat comes to Hyde Park Book Club on Monday 19 October, the Leeds stop of a national spoken word initiative run by Mind Over Matter Arts CIC. The night is a poetry slam, and Simone Yasmin is the headliner.

If you're not familiar with the wider project, it's a nationwide run of regional slams that combine free, high-quality creative workshops with the competitions themselves. Each regional slam feeds into a Grand Finale in the heart of London, where twelve regional finalists compete for £3,000 in prize money. The Leeds Heat is one of those regional stops, and applications to perform in it closed on Friday 10 October.

There's also a bit of aftercare built in. Following each slam, the organisers offer an optional, free 45-minute online session with their resident BACP-accredited psychotherapist Anna Sinski, who's also available at the slam itself. The whole initiative is supported by public funding through the National Lottery via Arts Council England, though the prize money is funded privately.

On the night, doors open at 6:00 pm, the show runs from 7:00 to 10:00 pm, and a DJ and networking follow from 10:00 to 11:00 pm. Tickets are £11.25, and you'll find the venue at 27-29 Headingley Lane, Headingley, Leeds, LS6 1BL.
