Beginner memoir writing workshop for adults aged 18 and over, led by professional writer Chris Bartlett at Swarthmore Education Centre.
Chris Bartlett is running a memoir writing workshop at Swarthmore Education Centre on Thursday 19 November and Thursday 26 November, two evening sessions from 6 pm to 8 pm. It's for anyone who wants to learn how to put their life into words.
Bartlett, a professional writer and teacher, frames the memoir as a narrative written from your own perspective about an important aspect of your life. He describes it as an empowering personal journey that can help you share your experiences and inspire others. He's also quick to make one point clear: you don't need to have played football for your country, sung on the Pyramid Stage or ruled a country to write one. Every life is extraordinary in its own way.
Over the two evenings, the workshop covers where to start, how to structure a memoir, and offers writing tips, with the aim of ensuring your history isn't lost. It's aimed at beginners, aged 18 and over, and runs as a relaxed evening. The venue itself, Swarthmore Education Centre at 2-7 Woodhouse Square, LS3 1AD, is a centre for lifelong learning, community projects and family learning, run on a friendly, human scale for people who might not feel comfortable in more formal educational institutions.
