A day of the D.I.Y. hardcore punk festival MEANS TO AN END… with four bands at Wharf Chambers, a members-only venue in Leeds.
Wharf Chambers hosts a day of DIY hardcore punk on Sunday 18 October, as part of A Means to an End..., a punk fest that's been running since 2005 and usually works towards a matinee. Four bands are on the bill: Couture from East Yorkshire, The Social from Merseyside, Unified Action from the North East, and Leeds' own Vetch. It's a proper regional gathering, with three of the acts travelling in from across the North to join the local one.
Wharf Chambers is a bar and venue in the city centre run by a workers' co-op together with a members' club, operating as a not-for-profit space for music, art, film, politics and discussion. It sits on the ground floor of a Victorian former pork pie factory on Wharf Street, on the edge of The Calls behind the Corn Exchange, and has a beer garden. Entry is by membership only: £2 a year or £15 for life, and each member can bring up to three guests. Inside, there's a free Radical Lending Library stocking books on race, gender, sexuality, queerness, class and radical politics. The venue works to a safer spaces agreement, and there are gender-neutral toilets, a wheelchair-accessible cubicle with a baby changer and a permanent hearing loop.

The day runs from 15:30 to 20:30, with doors at 16:00, so it's an afternoon and early evening affair rather than a late one. Entry is £8, cash only — no card payments, so keep that in mind before you head down. With the four bands on the bill, it's a full day of hardcore punk in a space that keeps its politics and its community front and centre.
