Live rap show by MC Devvo, the satirical character created by David Firth and played by Darren Derbyshire, at The Wardrobe.
MC Devvo plays The Wardrobe on Saturday 14 November, with doors opening at 7:30pm. It's a solo show, with Devvo as the only name on the bill.
If you're wondering who that is, it helps to know where he comes from. Devvo is a satirical character created by David Firth and played by Darren Derbyshire. He first appeared on fat-pie.com back in 2004, well before YouTube became the place for this kind of thing. He was an early pioneer of internet comedy videos, and he blew up on MySpace before landing his own show on Channel 4's E4 in 2006. From there, he became a national phenomenon, rebranded himself as MC Devvo, and embarked on a rap career that took him around the UK.
So, the act is a bit of a double-act in itself: a character born from the early web, played by a performer, and built around a rap persona. If you remember him from the E4 days, this is that same character on stage. If you've never come across him, it's a good place to start.
