Self-guided urban adventure and outdoor escape room where up to five players follow the Go Quest Adventures app to solve puzzles across Leeds.
Leeds Central Library is the starting point for an interactive treasure hunt and exploration game that turns the city centre into a puzzle. It's a self-guided urban adventure, billed as part treasure hunt and part outdoor escape room, so you're not just walking a route — you're working through it. You follow the Go Quest Adventures app, which leads you past the city's famous sights and some of its better-hidden gems, with clues and challenges to solve and fun facts to unlock as you go. Once you've finished, there's a city Leader Board where you can see how you place against other players.
The whole thing runs for about 2.2 miles and takes roughly two and a half to three hours to complete. It's recommended for ages 10 and over, and children under 16 need adult supervision. The app is in English only. Because it's self-guided, the date and time are completely flexible — you play whenever you like, so it's easy to fit around a weekend or a day off.
The starting point, Leeds Central Library on Calverley Street, is a bit of a landmark in its own right. It occupies the former Municipal Buildings, which date from 1879-1884 and were designed by George Corson. The interior is full of detailed carvings by John Wormald Appleyard, including an alabaster arch by Farmer & Brindley, so the Victorian grandeur and intricate stonework are there to see before you head out into the streets.
