Yorkshire gypsy funk band Klonk plays The Domino Club on Grand Arcade.
Klonk are playing The Domino Club on Friday 27 November, their Leeds home for the night. It's a late one: Klonk take the stage at 10pm for two hour-long sets, and there's other music on from opening until then. The bill is simple — just Klonk.
They're an eight-piece party and festival band from the hills and valleys of Yorkshire, and they call what they do 'gypsy funk'. The sound comes from mashing traditional Eastern European melodies with funk, metal, disco and hip-hop. The line-up puts a funky horn and rhythm section alongside folky fiddles and bouzouki, a classical cellist, and scratches and samples from a turntablist. It's a big band on stage, and the mix of folk, funk and turntablism is exactly where that 'gypsy funk' label comes from.
They've toured the North of England for years, playing Huddersfield, Hebden Bridge, Holmfirth and Leeds, and appearing at festivals like Beatherder, Leadboiler, Just So and Strummercamp. This is one of those nights where the whole band is out in full.
