Live gig by Toronto's Kiwi Jr with support from Wormboys at Hyde Park Book Club, part of the Brudenell Presents... series.
Kiwi Jr play Hyde Park Book Club on Saturday 7 November, with support from Wormboys. It's part of the Brudenell Presents... series, so it's a Brudenell night hosted over at Hyde Park Book Club rather than their own place.
Kiwi Jr come from Toronto, and they describe their sound as a deadpan brand of postmodern indie rock. The lyrics turn their gaze on the realities of late-capitalist city life and the impossibility of a work-art balance in a high-rent metropolis, all filtered through satire and sarcasm. It's that particular kind of urban anxiety played out with a dry, detached delivery — the sort of thing that hits closer to home when you're living in a city yourself. They've toured in thirteen countries, so this is a band that's spent plenty of time on the road.
The night is a double bill, with Wormboys opening for them. It's a small room, with a capacity of 150, so it'll be a fairly tight crowd around the stage. The show is strictly for ages 14 and over, and under-18s need to be accompanied by an adult.
