Live music gig by Kelley Stoltz, with support from Pablo's Paintings and Herbie May, at Hyde Park Book Club.
Kelley Stoltz plays Hyde Park Book Club on Wednesday 18 November, with support from Pablo's Paintings and Herbie May. Stoltz is an American songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and DIY innovator whose career goes back to the late 1990s, when he started recording psych-tinged pop and garage rock in his San Francisco home studio. Born in New York City in 1971 and raised in Michigan, he's put out a long catalogue on labels including Sub Pop, Third Man and Castle Face Records, often playing all the instruments himself.
He's coming off a busy few years: his eighteenth album, La Fleur, came out in 2024, and this show falls into the cycle for his nineteenth full-length, If You Don't Know Me, Buy Now, released in 2026. Beyond his own records, he's a one-time Echo & the Bunnymen rhythm guitarist, currently Robyn Hitchcock's West Coast drummer, and hosts KEXP's weekly show Vinelands.
Opening the night is Pablo's Paintings, formed in 2018 by Matt Allison, Dom Richmond and Jon Richmond. They describe their sound as rooted in a shared love of 60s garage, outsider folk and avant-garde pop, so the bill pulls together a few different threads of psych and garage across the evening. Herbie May also appears on the bill.
