Three-hour workshop to make a decorative Jesmonite plant pot using terrazzo, marbling, block colour and drip techniques.
Objectify is running a Jesmonite plant pot workshop at Headingley Enterprise & Arts Centre on Saturday 9 January, from 10am to 1pm. It's a three-hour session, and the whole thing is led by Gaby from Objectify, who'll take you through it step by step with demonstrations along the way.
If you've never come across Jesmonite, it's a non-toxic, eco-friendly, water-based resin used for decorative homeware, art and furniture. It comes as a two-part mix of powder and liquid that you combine at a 1 to 2.5 ratio to make a milky mixture, which you then pour into silicone moulds to cure. Over the course of the morning, you'll make a plant pot around 12cm high, 15cm wide and 10cm deep, working through terrazzo, marbling, block colour and drip techniques. The group sizes are kept small, with a maximum of ten people, so you're not just one of a crowd.
All the materials are provided, so you only need to bring yourself and an apron or an oversized shirt. Objectify notes that Jesmonite washes out in the washing machine, but the pigment can stain, which is why the apron comes in handy. If you find you've got the bug, Jesmonite kits are available to buy on the day for anyone who wants to keep experimenting at home.
