Jeffrey Silverstein brings his alt-Americana and freak folk sound to Hyde Park Book Club in Headingley.
Jeffrey Silverstein plays Hyde Park Book Club on Tuesday 23 March, with doors opening at 19:30. He's a New Jersey native who eventually settled in the Pacific Northwest, and it was there he found his footing in the alt-Americana sphere with his album Doggone.
That record came together with a group of Portland-based collaborators: producer-composer Ryan Oxford, bassist Alex Chapman and drummer Dana Buoy, who you might know from Akron/Family. They recorded at the Center for Sound, Light and Color Therapy, and Amy Dragon mastered the final result. Freak folk hero Devendra Banhart lent guest vocals to the lead single, 'Out of Tune', so there's a bit of a wider folk community woven into the record.
Silverstein describes his music as sitting at the intersection of loner-folk, cosmic country and kraut-laden choogle, and he draws on the creative community around him to fill in the gaps. It's a sound that pulls from a few different places at once, and this is a chance to hear it live in Leeds.
