Family Christmas pantomime at Carriageworks Theatre, featuring Sir Kevin Sinfield as the voice of the Giant, with audience participation and musical numbers.
Jack and the Beanstalk runs at Carriageworks Theatre from 27 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, the latest in the theatre's Christmas pantomime series. It follows Snow White, Beauty and the Beast and Sleeping Beauty, and brings a new energy to the old story: Jack trades for a handful of mysterious beans and finds a world high above the clouds where a very grumpy giant awaits. He has to outwit the fearsome Giant Blunderbore to save the village along the way, with Dame Trott, Simon Trott and a disco-dancing cow called Daisy in the mix, and a Spirit of Cloud Land battling the villainous Fleshcreep. It's billed as one of Leeds' biggest Christmas shows, with stunning costumes, toe-tapping musical numbers, plenty of audience participation and a story about bravery, family and believing in yourself.
Laura-Dene Perryman plays Jack, Aaron Steadman is Dame Trott, and Jez Edwards takes on Simon Trott. John Lyons is King Crumble, Darren Clewlow-Smith plays Fleshcreep, and Niall Gray is the Prince, with Evangeline Barnby as the Spirit of the Clouds. The Giant's voice is provided by Sir Kevin Sinfield. Paul Giddings directs, Jack Storm choreographs and Jay Taylor is musical director.
