Over-18s workshop led by illustrator and printmaker Abbie Mooney to introduce collagraph printing, with all materials and equipment provided.
Abbie Mooney is running an introduction to collagraph printing at Swarthmore Education Centre on Thursday 29 October, from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. It's a single evening's workshop, so you're in and out in one go rather than committing to a full course.
If you've never come across collagraphs, the name gives it away: it's a printing process where you build up a plate by layering textures, shapes and marks. Once you've got your plate together, you ink it and run it through a traditional roller press to pull the image onto paper. The whole thing relies on everyday, readily available materials, which makes it a low-barrier way to get into printmaking — the kind of thing you can keep doing at home with stuff you've already got in the cupboard.
Mooney is an illustrator and printmaker, and she'll be leading the session, so there's someone on hand to talk you through the process. You don't need any previous experience to join in, and all the materials and equipment are provided on the night. You'll leave with a selection of your own handmade prints and your original collagraph plate, which means you can take it home and keep printing from it after the workshop is over.
