Sherry tasting of the six key styles, each paired with a small tapa, run by the Yorkshire Wine School.
Yorkshire Wine School is hosting an International Sherry Week Tasting at St Peter's Hall on Thursday 5 November, starting at 7:00 PM. It's part of International Sherry Week, so if you've ever looked at a wine list and wondered what the difference is between a Fino and an Amontillado, this is a good place to start.
Laura and the team lead the session, and they're passionate about the stuff. They'll walk you through the six key styles of Sherry and explain the solera system — the traditional way the wine is aged and blended over years, rather than coming from a single vintage. Each glass is paired with a small tapa, so you're tasting and eating as you go.
There's a bit of a story to the food, too. The word 'tapa' comes from an old Andalusian practice of placing a small piece of bread or cracker over a glass of Sherry to keep flies out. Later, bartenders started adding ham or cheese to the top to entice customers to stay for another round. That's exactly how the night works: a glass of Sherry, a small plate to go with it, and the story behind the tradition.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Leeds and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.
