Live gig by Iguana Death Cult with support from Wax Head and Plonk! at Hyde Park Book Club in Headingley.
Iguana Death Cult play Hyde Park Book Club on Friday 23 October, with support from Wax Head and Plonk!. It's a full bill for a Friday night in Hyde Park, and the headliners bring a fair bit of history with them.
They started out in 2014 as a group of young friends who just wanted to make rock 'n' roll, and they've covered a lot of ground in the decade since. They've toured with Osees and Frankie and the Witchfingers, supported Jack White, and played SXSW, Levitation Festival and Desert Daze, along with several US tours. The current line-up features Jeroen Reek on vocals, Tobias Opschoor on guitar, and Jimmy de Kok on percussion and synths, with drummer Uri Rennert β formerly of HΓ€xxan and Brian Jonestown Massacre β having joined after a personnel change.
Their latest work leans on personal stories of hardship and doubt while fixing its gaze on the burning world around them. Their 2023 album Echo Palace came out on Innovative Leisure, and that gave way to the new record Guns Out on Greenway Records, which returns the band to a punchier, more in-your-face garage-rock style. Between the two, there's a shift in tone to hear: the more reflective, inward-looking side of Echo Palace and the louder, more direct approach of Guns Out.
