Free drop-in installation by Leeds artist K Walker combining performance, sculpture, sound and moving image to explore queer nightlife for Light Night Leeds 2026.
K Walker brings a new installation, I want ur hands on me (unrequited), to The Attic as part of Light Night Leeds 2026. It's a commission for the festival, and it pulls together performance, sculpture, sound and moving image to look at queer nightlife, drawing on the emotional ups and downs of clubbing. It's not just a static display; the different elements run alongside each other, so you'll find sculpture and performance in the same space as the sound and the film.
The whole thing grew out of a workshop with members of the queer community in Leeds, and that local connection carries through into the collaborators. The sound work was made with KESSIE, a resident DJ at the city's queer club night Love Muscle, and videographer Ronnie Danaher filmed a new moving image piece in and around West Yorkshire. It's also the first time Walker has worked with professional performers, with Yorkshire Dance supporting the project.
Walker is a Leeds-based multidisciplinary artist, born in Wakefield and often working under the alias In Close Proximity. They're a founding member of the artist-led collective LAX, based at FiiK Studios in Mabgate, and their work across photography, sculpture, costume and poetry tends to circle back to gender, illness, otherness and sensuality. This installation sits right in that mix, bringing together a few different ways of working into one room.
