Spooky Halloween half-term activity at Temple Newsam with creepy crafts, house tours and tales of the Blue Lady, including the Cellar Scares walkthrough.
Halloween Hauntings comes to Temple Newsam House on Saturday 24 October and Sunday 1 November, from 10:30. It's part of the house's Halloween half-term programme, so it's set up for families to spend a few hours together over the break.
The house is known for the Blue Lady, who's said to roam the corridors at night, and the hauntings let you dig into the estate's hidden histories. There are creepy crafts and activities for the whole family to get stuck into, so it's not just for the ghost story fans. If you're taking kids, the craft side of things keeps them busy while the older ones can lean into the spookier side of the house.
For those who want something a bit more intense, there's 'Cellar Scares' down in the mansion's cellar. It's a torch-lit walkthrough through the shadowy underbelly of the house, with eerie masked characters and unsettling fairground themes. That one's for ages 12 and above, so it's a separate thing from the family activities upstairs—something to save for the older kids or to do on your own if you're after a proper fright.

Between the two dates, you've got a couple of weekends to fit it in, and it runs from 10:30 on both. Entry is General Admission, so you can just turn up and wander through. If you're planning a family day out, the crafts and the Blue Lady tales work for all ages, while the cellar is the one to keep in mind for the 12-plus crowd.
