Live jazz gig by trumpet player Grifton Forbes-Amos and his project Ecliptica, blending jazz, gospel and soul.
Grifton Forbes Amos plays Hyde Park Book Club on Wednesday 28 October, performing under the name Ecliptica.
Forbes Amos is a British trumpet player, and Ecliptica is the project he's playing here. The sound pulls from a few different places at once: it blends various strands of jazz with the soulful playing of gospel and soul jazz, and it pays homage to his Latin influences. It's a fusion of those elements rather than a mix of them running side by side, and Forbes Amos describes the result as a form of jazz that's 'like candy to your ears'.
If you're not familiar with the name, that's a good place to start. The trumpet is the lead, and the set draws on those gospel and soul jazz roots for its melodic side, while the Latin influences bring in the rhythmic feel. It's a broad enough reach that you can hear the different threads working together in one go.
