Competitive wine tasting in which host Laura from Yorkshire Wine School faces off against David from Newcastle LWS, with the audience voting for the winner.
Grape Off is back at St Peter's Hall on Saturday 5 December, the latest in a new series that takes the school's favourite wine tasting and turns it into a competitive sport. The host, Laura from Yorkshire Wine School, goes head-to-head with one of her wine pals from across the Local Wine School network, who travels to Leeds to do battle. This time it's Laura versus David from Newcastle LWS.
The format is straightforward: each pro picks a range of wines around a theme and a price point, then presents their case to the room. The audience vote decides who wins. The match runs over three rounds — a fizz round with bottles under £30, a whites round, and a reds round — for a total of ten wines to taste. It's as much about the pitch as the pour, with the two of them arguing their case while you decide who's actually got the better selection.
