GIMP FIST / In Evil Hour

GIMP FIST and In Evil Hour are playing The Fox & Newt on Saturday 24 October, a double bill that keeps the whole night firmly in the punk camp. It's a straightforward pairing: two bands from different corners of the country sharing one stage in Leeds.

GIMP FIST are a North East three-piece, and they've got Minor Threat listed as one of their main influences. That puts them in the hardcore punk tradition — fast, lean, and stripped back. They describe themselves as rooted deeply in street punk, so it's that raw, unpolished sound you'd expect from a three-piece playing with that kind of energy.

In Evil Hour have been playing together in various guises since 2003, so they've got a fair bit of time behind them. They bring gravelly vocals, energetic live shows, and hard-hitting punk rock melodies. They describe their own sound as a volatile, hardcore-inspired collision of punk rock and politics, driven by a disdain for the apathy and ignorance they feel pervades modern culture. Between the two, you've got the North East's street punk and a long-running act that leans into the political side of the genre.

It's a punk night through and through, with both bands drawing from the hardcore end of things. The show starts at 8:15pm at The Fox & Newt, and tickets are £13.20, which includes the booking fee.
