Greek folk music night at The Lending Room, the upstairs room at The Library pub on Woodhouse Lane.
Gidiki play The Lending Room on Tuesday 10 November, with the night starting at 19:30. It's a Greek folk night, and the name Gidiki itself points back to those roots.
If you're not familiar with the venue, The Lending Room is the upstairs room at The Library, a pub on Woodhouse Lane on the edge of Hyde Park, a stone's throw from the main University of Leeds campus. The building has lived several lives before settling into a music venue: it was a fire station and then a library. It runs its own sound system and sound engineers, booking everything from local artists to international touring acts, with local names landing support slots alongside headliners as well as headline shows of their own.
The night leans into its Greek roots, and the description makes it clear what not to expect: 'This is not bouzouki and plate smashing. This is Greek folk fire at its most genuine.' It's folk music from Greece, played straight and without the stereotypes.
