Free guided gallery tour of the sculpture exhibition 'Fuzzy Forms' followed by a sensory play session in the Studio, for babies up to 13 months and their grown-ups.
Gallery Babies: Fuzzy Forms is at the Henry Moore Institute on Thursday 26 November, a morning and afternoon session for the youngest visitors and their grown-ups. It's part of the institute's Gallery Babies programme, which introduces sculpture to babies and the adults who bring them. The session runs in two slots: 11:00–12:30 and 14:00–15:30, and it's for babies up to 13 months old, who need to be accompanied by an adult.
The morning or afternoon starts with a relaxed tour of the exhibition on display in the Sculpture Galleries. The work is by Sagarika Sundaram, who makes monumental sculptures from felted wool. The show features entirely new work she made in Kutch, India, including Blue Mountain, a seven-metre-long piece, and Dancer, a floor-to-ceiling, shell-like spiral. After the tour, the group moves to The Studio for a sensory play session.
That sensory space is filled with fuzzy, tactile materials that connect back to the artworks, so while the babies get a playful, hands-on experience, parents and grandparents have a chance to socialise and talk about the exhibition. The Studio is on the second floor and has its own toilet, baby-changing facilities, and a dedicated quiet space if things get a bit much.
