Over-18s Rocket yoga session led by Amber Dernulc, part of an autumn series of element-themed workshops.
Elemental Rocket: Air is at The Attic on Saturday 24 October, part of an autumn series of Rocket workshops each built around an element as dictated by the Mayan calendar. This one focuses on air, and it's led by Amber Dernulc, assisted by qualified yoga teachers Anna Wilding and Natasha Berry.
Rocket Yoga was created by Larry Schultz, one of the first Western practitioners to travel to India and train under Pattabhi Jois. Schultz reworked the Ashtanga Series to make it more playful and accessible, shifting the focus towards intention, verbal cues and light 'two-finger adjustments'. This creative hybrid sequence leans on those foundations, favouring heart-opening and expansive postures, classic Rocket transitions and inversions like Pincha Mayurasana, arm balances and backbends, before closing with an extended shavasana and a guided meditation.
Amber Dernulc brings a background in dance and gymnastics to her teaching. She completed her 200 hours in 2020 and has since trained in Rocket, Mandala, Yin, Nidra, Tripsichore and Synergy. The session is for over-18s and requires some knowledge of asana, so it's best if you've got a bit of experience under your belt rather than coming in as a complete beginner. You'll need to bring your own mat, blocks and straps.
