Four-day free collaborative making and drawing project for families to draw, build and reimagine the city in the Leeds Art Gallery's Central Court during the October half-term.
Drawn Together: The City We Make runs at Leeds Art Gallery from Tuesday 27 October to Friday 30 October, a four-day project for families during the October half-term. Over those four days, the gallery's Central Court becomes an evolving, growing city. Using scrap resources, drawing materials and a big space, younger and older visitors are invited to draw, build, map, connect and reimagine the city together, adding buildings, gardens, streets or places to meet.
Because it builds on itself, the city changes from Tuesday through to Friday. What one family adds on the first day stays there for the next to build around, so the space grows as more people get involved. It's a collaborative making and drawing project, and the whole thing is facilitated by The Play Tent, whose approach is inspired by the principles of Reggio Emilia — an educational philosophy that puts a lot of trust in a child's own curiosity and their capacity to learn through exploration and collaboration. The project is designed to support that same curiosity and creative possibility, with the city as the thing everyone works on together.

It's set up for families, so it works as well for a quick half-hour visit as it does for spending a whole afternoon there. You can drop in on any of the four days, and since it's a collaborative project, you'll be adding your own mark to a city that other people have already started. The gallery is on The Headrow, right in the city centre, and the project runs from 11:00 to 15:00 each day. Entry is free.
