Family pottery workshop in which each adult and child pair shares a wheel to throw a food-safe pot, with the best two pieces taken home.
Jeannie Waterhouse is running a pottery throwing workshop for adults and children at Swarthmore Education Centre on Saturday 24 October, from 10:00 to 12:00. It's a shared session: each ticket covers one adult and one child aged 4 to 12, and the two of you share a wheel and take turns creating a pot. If the child is on the smaller side, they can sit on your knee while they have their go.
The session starts with a demonstration of how to throw a bowl on a wheel, so you'll see how it's done before you get stuck in. From there, it's over to you and your child to work together on the wheel. The pieces you make are food safe, though the centre recommends keeping them out of the oven, microwave and dishwasher. You'll take home the best two pieces, which will be ready to collect five to six weeks after the session.

It's all held at Swarthmore Education Centre, 2-7 Woodhouse Square, Leeds LS3 1AD. The centre is a hub for lifelong learning, community projects and family learning, and it's designed to welcome people who might not feel comfortable in more formal educational institutions, with a friendly, human-scale approach and a confidential counselling service on site. This workshop is part of their pottery collection, so it's one of several pottery-related things they run. The cost is £35 for the adult and child pair, and it runs from 10:00 to 12:00 on Saturday 24 October.
