Late-night DJ night with DJ Cully spinning funk, soul and disco at the grassroots venue Sela Bar.
DJ Cully is taking over Sela Bar on Friday 23 October, one of the city's late-night spots that comes alive at the weekend with DJs spinning funk, soul and disco. It's a DJ night, so the evening is built around the dance floor rather than a seated show.
If you've never been, Sela Bar is a small, independent, family-run grassroots music venue and bar in the basement of 20 New Briggate. You find it by heading down the red stairs, and it's been running for 22 years. Over that time it's given a stage to some of the region's finest musicians, and on the weekends it's the DJs who keep it going with funk, soul and disco. It's a late-night spot, so it's the kind of place that gets into its stride well after dark.
Beyond the dance floor, the venue does a few other things throughout the month: a charity music quiz, comedy nights, movie screenings and art exhibitions. It's a proper basement space that works as much for a quiet drink as it does for a night out, and it's still family-run after more than two decades in the same spot.
