Darts, the doo-wop group behind 'Daddy Cool', plays the Brudenell Social Club for its 50th anniversary.
Darts are back at Brudenell Social Club on Friday 6 November, presented by TV's Over. It's a homecoming of sorts: the night marks the 50th anniversary of the group's founding, and it brings Britain's best-known doo-wop act back to one of their favourite venues.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, the songs probably will. Their chart hits from the late 1970s and early 1980s include 'Daddy Cool', 'The Girl Can't Help It', 'Come Back My Love', 'Boy From New York City', 'It's Raining' and 'Duke of Earl'. They're a nine-strong act now, known for tight harmonies and a sense of humour that's earned them rave reviews over the years.
This particular line-up brings together eight of the nine members from their golden years: Big Den Hegarty, Griff Fender, Rita Ray, Pikey Butler, Horatio Hornblower on saxophone, Mark 'Skid' Pearson on guitar, Nosmo King on drums, Thump Thomson on bass and Jimmy 'The Nit' Compton on keyboards. It's a good chunk of the original sound back together on one stage.
