Live show by CVC (Church Village Collective), the six-piece soul-rock band from the Welsh valleys, at Archive on Kirkstall Road.
CVC play Archive on Thursday 3 December, their first Leeds date in a while. They're a six-piece from the Welsh valleys, and the name is short for Church Village Collective. The sound is built on guitars, synths and chorus-rich soul-rock, and it's easy to hear where they're pulling from: the indie-funk of Parcels and Tame Impala sits alongside the nu-soul gospel of Thee Sacred Souls.
Their debut album, Get Real, earned a Welsh Music Prize nomination and a fair bit of critical attention. NME called it "a cracking debut album of feelgood, uber-retro gems," and it took them on tours that played to crowds all over the world. Clash Magazine described their live shows as "a thing of wonder," so if you've only heard the record, this is a good chance to see how it translates to the stage. Work on their second album is now finished, so there's new material waiting in the wings.
