Free curator-led tour of the Sagarika Sundaram exhibition 'Reservoir', with work made in felt and wool in Kutch, India.
Laurence Sillars is leading a curator's tour of Reservoir at The Henry Moore Institute on Thursday 22 October, from 18:00 to 19:00. Sillars is the Head of the Institute and the curator of the exhibition, so he'll be walking you through the work and talking about how it came together.
The show features the sculptor Sagarika Sundaram, who works with wool and felt, building monumental, immersive, and colourful forms through repeated dyeing, layering, and compression. Every piece in Reservoir was made in Kutch, north-west India, where she's developed her research into felt and dyeing. At the centre of the exhibition is Blue Mountain (2026), a monumental sculpture stretching almost seven metres, with undulating forms that create cave-like spaces you can move through. Alongside it are the floor-to-ceiling spiral Dancer (2026) and Rope, which reconstructs the process of rope-making.
Sundaram was born in Kolkata in 1986 and now lives and works in New York. She studied at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, and completed an MFA at Parsons School of Design, The New School, in New York. Recent solo shows include Alison Jacques in London and Nature Morte in Delhi, both in 2025, and Palo Gallery in New York in 2023.
