Two winter nights of late entry to historic Temple Newsam House with festive displays, twinkling lights and centuries-old traditions.
Christmas Evenings are coming to Temple Newsam House on Thursday 17 and Friday 18 December, two winter nights when one of Leeds' most historic landmarks opens up late for the festive season. It's a late-night entry to the house, which they've filled with festive displays, twinkling lights and centuries-old traditions. If you've never been inside the house after dark, this is one of the few times a year you can.
There are a couple of new additions for 2026. The Elf Academy is the one for the smaller ones, with workshops and tours that train mini elves throughout the evening. And for those who want to get out of the house and into the grounds, there's a Christmas Tree Trail that runs around the estate, so you can stretch your legs between the displays inside. Between the two, it works as a family night out rather than just a quick walk-through.

It's worth keeping in mind that this is a late-night event, so you're not fighting the usual daytime crowds. The house is open from 17:00 to 19:00 on both nights, with the last entry at 18:30. Membership or concessionary schemes aren't valid for entry here, so you'll need to book your tickets separately. If you're planning to do both the house and the trail, giving yourself the full window is probably a good shout.
