Stand-up show by Chris Cantrill, winner of the 2026 Edinburgh Comedy Award, about a rural borderlands community and a mysterious tree.
Chris Cantrill is back at The Wardrobe on Thursday 27 May with Rewilding, his new comedy show. It's a fair way off, but it's worth getting on the radar now. Cantrill is coming off a big year: he won the 2026 Edinburgh Comedy Award, and you might know him from SNL UK and Icklewick FM.
Rewilding is built around community, vengeance and custard. It follows a rural borderlands community, an act of vandalism and the outsider determined to make it all about him. Having embraced village life, Chris is happy to see out his days whittling, signing for packages and glaring at passing hikers, until a beloved local tree is cut down in the dead of night and he's drawn into a mystery that reveals a far darker side to his surroundings. It's directed by Tom Parry, who was himself an Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee.
The reviews have been warm. The Times called it 'delightful', The List described it as 'infectious joy' and the Mail on Sunday went with 'utterly daft and engaging'. Critics have also called it a surrealist piece that would have Dali's moustache twitching, so it's less of a stand-up set and more of a proper show. It's for ages 16 and over.
