Candlelit swim with live music and soulful vocals inspired by bathing traditions from around the world at Bramley Baths.
Bramley Baths is hosting a candlelit sound bath and swim on Saturday 7 November, part of their Waters of the World programme. The main event is a swim by candlelight with live music and soulful vocals, with the music drawing on bathing traditions from around the world. It's set in the historic pool hall, and the whole thing is about slowing down and experiencing the Baths in a different way, looking at the connections between water, culture and wellbeing.
If you want to make a proper afternoon of it, there's an optional restorative yoga session from 4:00 to 5:00pm before the swim, which runs from 5:30 to 6:30pm. The yoga is an extra moment of calm to ease into the rest of the evening.
Bramley Baths itself is a community-led, not-for-profit centre for fitness, health and fun, with a public gym, swimming pool, steam room and space for community events, meetings and fitness classes. It was built on the site of a foundry and first opened as a pool and public bath-house in 1904, when local residents could wash, swim and use the Russian Steam Baths that were fashionable with the Edwardians as a healthy pastime. The foundry chimney, built with 8,000 Kirkstall bricks, still towers over the baths and can be seen from across Leeds.
