Community day to plant wildflower bulbs in a pollinator-friendly patch at the Alwoodley Co-op and celebrate the Meadow Corridor project.
Alwoodley 2030 are hosting a community bulb planting day at Co-op Food, Alwoodley, Nursery Lane on Sunday 1 November, starting at 2:00 pm. It's the first date in a wider programme that runs through to Monday 9 November, so if you can't make the Sunday, there's more to it later in the week.
The whole thing comes from a community project that started when a group of neighbours in the Belvederes bought some common land and set out to make it more beautiful and better for bees. The site sits at the end of one of the Meadow Corridors, so the planting extends that corridor and turns the patch into a food source for pollinators. On the afternoon, volunteers spend their time putting wildflower bulbs into the ground to get the co-op's wildflower patch ready for spring flowers. The day also doubles as a celebration of what the group has achieved so far, so it's as much about the people as it is about the planting.
