Free New York-inspired block party night with live funk from The NJB Allstars, hip-hop DJs and breakdancing at Brudenell Social Club.
Brooklyn Jam takes over Brudenell Social Club on Tuesday 27 October, a New York-inspired block party presented by Brooklyn Brewery. It's a free entry night, and the brewery is putting it on to mark the launch of their new Groundwork Session Lager, so there's a new beer on the bar to go with the music. The whole thing is built around the sounds and spirit of New York City's musical heritage, with live funk, soul, disco, hip-hop, Latin grooves and breaking running through the night.
The NJB Allstars take centre stage, a ten-piece live funk band playing James Brown classics. They're joined by Leeds hip-hop legends DJ T-Breaks & MC 10 Tonn, and DJ Lubi, who's billed as the city's main DJ connection for a funk, jazz and Latin fix played in all the right order. B-Boy Litefoot & Friends bring the breaking side of things, the dance culture that grew out of the Bronx and helped shape the whole scene. Between the live band, the DJs, and the breaking, it's a broad slice of the city's musical roots rather than just one style.

It's a mid-week one, so it's not a late night. Doors open at 7.30pm and the music runs until 11pm, and as it's free entry, you can just turn up and stay for as much as you fancy. If you're into funk, soul and the New York sound, it's a good one to have on the radar for a Tuesday night in Leeds.
