Monthly drop-in session to talk about death, dying and funerals, limited to eight people.
Black Cats & Unicorns - Celebrancy is back at Flamingos Coffee House on Monday 19 October, starting at 16:30. It's a monthly drop-in session here in Leeds where people gather to talk about death, dying and funerals. If that sounds like a heavy way to spend a Monday afternoon, it's worth knowing exactly what it is: a space to bring up the things that usually get pushed to the side.
It's run by Michelle Clayford, and she keeps the group deliberately small, limited to eight people. That's a conscious choice — it's meant to hold space for those coming to talk about the end of life, rather than turning into a large, impersonal meeting. With only a handful of people in the room, it stays a conversation rather than a presentation, and there's enough room for everyone to speak if they want to, or just listen if that's where they're at.
The session is a drop-in, so you don't need to have a particular agenda or a set of questions prepared to take part. It's as much about the act of gathering as it is about the specific things that come up. Whether you're thinking about your own plans, supporting someone else, or just find the whole subject hard to talk about anywhere else, it's a place where those conversations can happen out in the open.
