Beyond Paradise Christmas party with soul, disco and new wave from Craig Christon and Everton Campbell at The Booksellers Arms.
Beyond Paradise is taking over The Booksellers Arms on Saturday 19 December for a Christmas party that runs from 7:30pm until 1:00am. It's a night built around the same eclectic mix that's defined the name for years: soul, disco, new wave, Italo, Balearic lost B-sides and outsider music. If you're not familiar with those terms, it's a long way from a standard Christmas playlist — think more about the edges of the record bag than the chart hits.
Beyond Paradise started as a record label founded by Craig Christon, and from there it grew into a club night for discerning music lovers. Christon has curated parties in a string of distinctive Leeds spaces over the years, from Department at Leeds Dock to disused carpet warehouses, and this one lands at The Booksellers Arms, 24-32 Bridge end, LS1 4DJ.
He's joined by Everton Campbell, a lifelong friend who promotes and DJs alongside him. Together they've thrown legendary parties across the city over the last three decades, so this is a Leeds pairing with a fair bit of history behind it. The night is a Christmas party in name, but the music is the main thing: that same wide-ranging selection of soul, disco, new wave, Italo, Balearic B-sides and outsider records they've been spinning for years.
